💡Tools for navigating hard times

Maybe you’re reading this during a period of uncertainty, change, grief, or some combination of the three in your life. Maybe you’re on the precipice of a big life decision. Or maybe you’re on the other side of one, navigating new territory and trying to chart your path forward.

If you’re there, maybe this newsletter is hitting your inbox for a reason. And I’m right there with you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and wondering what to do…this section is for you.

  1. Feel the feelings. Unreleased or suppressed emotions get stored in our bodies – that is a fact. Resist the urge to stifle what you’re feeling. If you need to cry, cry. If you need to feel angry, feel angry. Grieve what you need to grieve, talk to your support system, and do not run away from the negative emotions coming up for you. Let’s be clear, though: there is a difference between feeling an emotion in order to release it, and wallowing in it. Give yourself a timeline. For a smaller thing, give yourself 24-48 hours to feel angry, upset, frustrated, whatever it is…and then move on. For bigger things, maybe you need 1-2 weeks to let it all go. Commit to allowing yourself to be messy during that time period. Let out what needs to come out. And then when it’s over, let it be over.

  2. Let it go. When that timeline is over, it’s time to truly let it go. Forgive who you need to forgive (including yourself). You’ve released all of that negative energy and emotion from your body – now it’s time to usher in the good stuff.

  3. Meditate on gratitude. Visualize in great detail past moments in your life that have brought you immense joy and gratitude. Put yourself back in those moments and really feel what it was like to be there. Next, start to visualize the ideal version of your life that you want to create. Again, do this in as much detail as possible. Focus on how you will feel in your mind and in your body when you’ve become this future version of you. Spend time immersed in this feeling of joy and gratitude. Repeat this exercise daily, ideally first thing in the morning, before looking at your phone.

  4. Move your body. Everything is energy, including emotion. Movement is an incredible way to release negative emotion and make space for a new reality. All movement is good movement, but movement that allows you to tap into your body (without disassociating) is especially powerful for nervous system regulation.

In this week’s episode of The Well Path Podcast, our guest Anna Roberts speaks in detail about the benefits of somatic movement and ways to incorporate it into your routine.

If you read one thing this week, let it be this:

Format: BookTime Commitment: 5 weeks total: ~1 week (215 pages) of information and prep + 4 week guided meditation programWhy bother: Fair warning: this book may challenge a lot of your assumptions about life and the way the world works (in a good way). I’ve read a lot of books on consciousness, mindfulness and meditation, and this is one of the best I’ve come across. Whether or not you decide to follow through with the meditation program, I am confident making assurances that the information shared in Parts 1 and 2 of this book will open your mind to an entirely new way of thinking. Dr. Dispenza does an incredible job at illuminating the science behind the “woo” – why and how concepts like manifestation and visualization actually work, and how you can leverage those truths to transform your own life.
