#31: 25 lessons from 2025

the year I started over

If you’ve been here for a little while, you will know that 2025 was the year I hit a big fat “RESET” button on my life.

At the end of 2024, I ended an engagement, left the home I’d built over four years in Dubai, and moved to Miami not knowing anyone there.

What followed wasn’t a rupture so much as a dismantling. A shedding of versions of myself that no longer fit, and a recalibration of the ones that did. My identity, my standards, my communities, my sense of direction – all of it had to be reoriented to match where I was going.

Reinvention, I’ve learned, is not so much about becoming someone new. It’s about removing what isn’t true and letting the rest reorganize.

If you’re reading this, maybe you’re someone who feels the subtle tension of a life that no longer quite fits. Maybe you’ve outgrown a version of yourself that once made sense, and you’re in that liminal space between who you were and what comes next.

If that resonates, know this: you are not alone and you have the power to reinvent yourself at any moment.

Here are 25 lessons I learned through my year of starting over:

  1. When you get better, everything in your life gets better. Focus on becoming your best self and let life rearrange itself accordingly.

  2. The less you say, the more people listen. Stop over-explaining. 

  3. Your friendships set the bar for how you expect (and allow) other people to treat you. Choose wisely. 

  4. You have the power to reinvent yourself at any time. You are never stuck.

  5. Authenticity is magnetism. Fully embody who you are and the right people and opportunities WILL find you. 

  6. If you’re generally resilient and optimistic, people may assume you never struggle. If you want support, you have to admit that you need it.

  7. You can know you made the right decision and still grieve a future you chose to walk away from.

  8. Healing isn’t linear. Grief comes in waves. They soften over time, but they don’t disappear overnight. 

  9. Your body always knows before your mind does. Exhaustion, tightness, resistance, anxiety — these are messages.

  10. You are a product of your environment. Invest in people and communities that bring out your favorite version of you.

  11. Chemistry without capacity is just adrenaline. What matters is how easily things flow when both people show up truthfully.

  12. Your desires are not random!!! Pay attention to what lights you up. 

  13. Feeling exhausted is a sign of misalignment. “Running on vibes” is a real thing. Alignment creates an amazing circuitry of energy that may allow you to thrive on far less sleep than you are used to. 

  14. The cure for everything is saltwater: sweat, tears, and the sea.

  15. It’s not your job to make everyone else comfortable :)

  16. There is no objective definition of normal. Things that felt crazy to you yesterday can feel normal tomorrow depending on who you surround yourself with and the story you choose to tell yourself. 

  17. If you want to change your life, start treating your commitments like non-negotiables.

  18. Never regret showing up with an open heart. If you were kind, honest, grounded, and genuine and it still didn’t work out, it wasn’t meant to be. Period. 

  19. Pause—what an opportunity. Creating a space between stimulus and response creates clarity. Everything that challenges you is an opportunity for growth. 

  20. A clarity that hurts you is kinder than a confusion that holds you.

  21. Life becomes dramatically easier with a regulated nervous system!!! 

  22. Curiosity is the antidote to projection. Be curious enough to see people as they are, not as who you hope they’ll be. You’ll save yourself a lot of detours. 

  23. There is an intelligence guiding us, often through gut pings. Listen without overthinking and be open to magic, miracles and synchronicities.

  24. When something feels confusing, it’s usually because it’s misaligned—not because you need more information.  

  25. Only you can pull yourself out. Others can hold your hand as you make your way to the edge, but no one can leap for you. Your life is ultimately your responsibility and your creation.
