How to get yourself out of a funk

We all have those days (sometimes weeks) where we just feel off. If you’re stuck in an energy funk right now, know that it is temporary and nothing is wrong with you – we all experience lows in some way shape or form.

The good news is, we have more power than we tend to think to shift our energy. This week’s episode of The Well Path Podcast is all about the practical tools you can use to help you regain momentum and get back to feeling like your sparkly, magnetic self again.

Here’s my 5-step plan to pulling yourself out of a weird mood:

1. MOVE YOUR BODY – 20 minutes, any movementWhen you’re in a funk, working out might be the last thing that you want to do, but it’s THE most powerful thing you can do to shift your energy. Do whatever calls to you: for me it’s usually a 20-30 minute strength workout on the FORM App. For you, it could be a quick run, a brisk walk, or a workout class.

It doesn’t matter what you do, just get your body moving and start allowing that stagnant low-vibration energy to move out of your body.

2. TAKE A HOT SHOWER – Cleanse your body, reset your mood Hot showers are super underrated. I promise you, there is something magical about hot water and a deep exfoliation. Make it an everything shower you so step out feeling completely cleansed. Don’t skip this step!

3. CLEAR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS – Meditate for 10-20 minutesTaking time to meditate can help ground your energy and quiet internal noise. Observe your thoughts as they come and go, and continually bring your awareness back into your body. If you’re new to meditation, I recommend the Open or the Balance app.

4. PHONE A FRIEND – We all need a pep talk every once in a whileIt’s tempting to withdraw when you’re feeling down, but this is when reaching out is most important. If after steps 1-3 you’re still not feeling it, call a close friend for a walk and talk.

Sometimes we will avoid reaching out because we don’t want to be a burden to others, but I promise you, your people want to be there for you. Give them the opportunity to show up for you. Highly recommend taking this call while outside on a walk if you can as walking while talking will also help move negative emotion out of your body.

5a. PUT YOURSELF TOGETHER – Look your best to feel your bestYou may feel like staying in your sweats on days like these, but taking even just a little bit of time to do your hair, put on a bit of makeup and an outfit that you feel confident in can make a huge difference in how you feel. It doesn’t matter if you’re not going anywhere, put yourself together for YOU and then…

5b. GET OUT OF THE HOUSE – Change your environment, change your energy The worst thing you can do when you’re in a funk is isolate yourself. Get outside and be around people, even if you’re not planning to socialize. Go out for a walk in your city, grab a coffee, or sit in a park. Being around other human beings, even strangers, gives you an opportunity to integrate fresh energy.

I hope this helps someone today!
